Unconventional Weavings
Madrid, 2023
This work is a journey into weaving using broken and found materials. It delves deeply into how an object can become an integral part of the weaving process, challenging the traditional boundaries of this textile technique. Weaving is fundamentally about controlling the material, and this is the essence of the work explored here.
The process evolves—from weaving around the material, to weaving through it, layering different elements, and ultimately weaving into the material itself. This technique is applied in an unconventional way, pushing past the traditional limits of this ancient practice. A new rhythm is created through objects, figures, and shapes, which at times must be disrupted to introduce a contrasting, more discordant rhythm.
When working with discarded materials, defects and imperfections are inevitable. Rather than concealing these flaws, they are embraced as a vital part of the sculpture's narrative. By giving these imperfections space within the artwork, they become an essential element of the story being told.
